Reason for Loss Collision at night in fog with Steamer Stonington of the same line. The Narragansett suffered a serious fire as a result of the collision.
Fatalities 30 on  Narragansett; none on Stonington
Location Collision occurred in Long Island Sound, off Saybrook CT. Neither vessel sank in the incident.

Other Information The Narragansett was badly damaged by fire,  grounded in shallow water and later towed to port and rebuilt. The Stonington suffered bow damage, but returned to port under her own power and was later rebuilt.
